great game but I have one minor complaint, some artifacts have blank spaces that are annoying, because I thought I fully dug it up, but it just isn't, it also isn't consistent which ones are and which ones aren't, like the top left square of the ammonite isn't but the bottom right corner of it is
The numbers get pretty big, so while I idle, I might as well have some fun punching numbers!
By my count, the grid is 23x23, and assuming they're cubes, there's another 1 foot, making it 23x23x1. In total, a full grid punched out is 529 cubic feet of Earth matter, which is around 82.6 metric tons.
The center of Earth is 3,959 miles deep, or 20,903,520 (20.9 M) feet, 11.01 B cubic feet, or 1,726 gigatons of mass.
To reach the other end, it's as simple as doubling it to 41.8 M feet, 22.1 B cubic feet, or 3,453 gigatons of mass.
Now here comes the hard stuff, if you were to cut out a 23x23 area from the equator of Earth, you'd get 63.2 q cubic feet sliced from the center, or 9.9 Exatons (9.9 GigaGigaKilotons)
If you were to line up all the matter on Earth into a single line of 23x23, it would be 72.3 Q feet long and have a volume the same as Earth, 38.2 s cubic feet, as well as the same mass, 5.9 Zettatons (5.9 GigaGigaMegatons).
If the Sun itself was replaced with an Earth of the same volume, its surface gravity would go from an estimated 274 m/s^2 to a whopping 1,064 m/s^2, just under 4 times that of the Sun. The mass of the SolEarth, spread out in a 23x23 line, would extend to 93.5 S feet in length, or 3,011,049,728 Light Years. For reference, the Milky Way is only 52,850, and the Universe is 46.508 billion light years.
In order to reach one end of the Observable Universe to the other, using 23x23x1 foot tiles of Earth Matter, you will need 1.44 Octillion feet, or 59.83 solar masses / 119 Quettatons (119 GigaGigaGigaMegatons) of matter.
I couldn't understand the point of crafting, though. It opened too far in the game, and I didn't see why I should even bother Scrolling through updates was kind of a pain (v 0.3.4), but I guess it's been fixed now
Hey everybody new version (0.3.5) is up now for browser. Your progress should save now after reloading or closing the browser tab! That being said, there may be future updates where I need to wipe y’all’s saves if structural changes are made to the player data. Let me know if anyone is still having issues with losing their progress in the meantime!
Other small changes ~
weakened the Denisovan Bracelet upgrade by adding a cap to the boost value
added popups on white tiles at the end of the game to alert the user that they have reached the end of the world.
adjusted scroll speed
0.3.5 mac and pc builds are also now up.
A lot of the updates this week have been bug fixes and quality of life improvements. I’m planning to push some updates with gameplay improvements, more content, and better balancing in the coming weeks.
Super fun!!! It had me playing for weeks. The gardener's backyard is a lot more OP than the other one letting you get a lot of worms buying all the upgrades and ending up with 20 mil artifact points, then getting a new permit and eventually crashing the game. A bug I found was having around 1 trillion digs per second but even after 5 minutes still having less than that for total feet dug. (see image)
I think that the artifact sensor unlocked too late because after it unlocked, I already knew the shapes of most of the artifacts. I also found the zoning annoying once I unlocked it, it was digging so fast that when I tried adding a zone to dig up an artifact it was already dug up. Sorry for all the negative feedback, I hope you know that I really enjoyed (and still enjoy) your game, as a game dev I try to give helpful feedback instead of saying how much I like the game but sometimes I can seem too harsh.
thank you for playing ! I dont think the feedback sounds harsh, it is very helpful for me. the terminology between "feet dug" and "digs" is kind of confusing right now. it takes multiple "digs" to to dig down 1 foot on each tile which is why the numbers don't match, but im brainstorming better ways of presenting this info.
Within the course of a couple of hours, I've progressed to the point where I can dig through the earth within a couple of minutes. I should also note that the unlock requirement for badgers is too high/broken(I'm pretty sure it was because of too much artifacts).
I'm a bug hunter, don't take these as negative criticism.
-Crafting comes in way too late. I was just about to close out of the game and type this up when it came in
-The centerline moves to the left by two tiles when you look at the depth map
-The depth map is just weird until you hit the middle part of the game, needs early game scaling
-Try placing the bear zone on the left or right edge of the map and see what happens
-One tick of scrolling moves the menu by like 4 pixels. It takes 12 full drags of the mouse wheel to go from top to bottom. Scrolling through upgrades, holy shit that is terrible. This is the only problem that makes this make me not want to play anymore.
-Can't scroll down to the bottom of Badger
-Charcoal doesn't mine automatically, I had to buy it.
-Pop ups can't be closed unless you do the action they want, such as the tutorial ones. Some actions can't be completed due to other bugs, like the charcoal one. Then you are stuck with a popup that can't be closed right in your face.
-Can't see all permanent and one time upgrades that were bought. The wording on them makes it sounds like when you buy them it applies the current percentage one time, so I put off buying them for a while. i.e. I put off buying the Venus of Willendorf upgrade because I only found 4 Super Rares until that point. I don't know if finding all 10 makes the percentage boost go up AFTER it was bought.
-If you try to upgrade Archeology but click on the progress bar, it doesn't upgrade.
-Scaling is just too fast and weird. If you want a game that people can play for hours and days then it is definitely in need of adjustment. I would recommend slow down the digging in the mid/late game, speed up the artifacts at each stage, but lower their point values.
-Cost resets are pretty neat but they should probably be based on a scaling price (based on your prestige percentage) rather than how many you have. It's way too broken once you hit the mid game and get 3-4 of them all at once.
-Clicking becomes useless in the mid game, not sure how to keep that relevant, maybe a bigger dig area as well as more power scaling.
Overall not bad for an early game build. Kept me occupied and entertained for a couple hours. I love the concept of multiple plots of land and what they offer in terms of benefits, definitely need more of those. And probably something to do with those research points.
Buy 10x and similar options should update costs on the menu to the commensurate value instead of staying at the 1x cost(and 10x shouldn’t let you buy less than 10x imo)
I agree that's why I hold off on buying anything until I know I have enough for ten. This should be one of the next updates. It's still a fun game but not knowing if I'll get ten of something less is a real pain.
its locked at the bonus you bought it at (if you saw my original response before i deleted my comment its because i misinterpreted the question on first read!)
If you wanted to look into a way of saving that could be easier for you, there's a cool site for Idle games called galaxy.click where is cloud based, maybe you could look at hosting there too
Nice game! The first play and then next two prestiges felt good. The unique item that times research points by $100k/s busts the game to where I can clear a map in 15 seconds. (That's the only time I experienced lag btw because it was showing every artifact pop-up at once. Never had lag on normal gameplay.) The upgrades that reset costs happen a bit too frequently. Or rather, it would be nice if they reduced the cost like log10() so you could buy multiple of them at once. The crafting and zoning never became relevant to the main progression. The ore was only relevant on one run.
Hey everyone small update out (0.3.4) with a fix for the random white squares appearing early in the game. thanks to MIGHTBE_APERSON on here and Aler II on discord for helping identify when exactly this bug was happening; made it much easier for me to fix ! Anyways, if you dig far enough you will still see the white squares take over the entire screen, that just means you beat the game.
hey guys if you dig really far and the whole screen goes white that just means you got to the end of the game !
If the squares are going white earlier on in the game or after the ore disappears then this is a bug and I’m tryna figure out what’s going on so I can push a fix !
I Think I found it out, when you click on an empty spot that has an artifact the game stacks up the digs even if it doesn't affect the dig count and after some time it'll just show up as white.
a lot of fun. breaks around 1.5 trillion feet on every hole. The ore and crafting is cool in early game, but doesn't do much after the numbers get big. Once you hit 1 million research points, it all moves so quick that you're through the ore before you have time to collect anything.
I hit around 99 million research points and there just wasnt anything left to discover or do, and new holes take like 5 minutes. That said, it was a blast all the way through
Zero lag for me all the way through to the '"end". The denosovian permanent upgrade completely breaks the game, as others have said. Another note is that the research point passive bonus is mis-stated on the prestige warning screen, by a factor of 100 or 50 I'm pretty sure. It made me delay my first prestige for far too long, because my 4.5% increase was actually 4.5x I think.
One thing I didn't like was the cost reset upgrades. They feel really, really min-maxy, which is cool the first few times but rapidly becomes tedious. Maybe it's fine, if you put a button on the animals themselves to buy the reset if it's available so that I'm not hunting and tab switching a ton, but... I dunno. I'd have rather seen more synergies.
Still a perfectly acceptable way to spend a couple hours!
thank you for playing ! i like the 4.5x vs 4.5% format so i think i may adopt that. i have also been feeling like the cost reset upgrades are too tedious and was considering toning them down quite a bit :-)
There is still a small amount of late game/ end game lag from the text boxes on artifacts, but it quickly disappears because the entire site becomes undiggable maybe 30-45 seconds after artifacts start popping up left and right.
3d model didn't work for me. I also never unlocked crafting that I saw in someone's screenshot. I waited to buy a one shot upgrade that that scaled research points based on every $100,000 and then bought it when I had a really high income amount. My research jumped from 75% to X BILLION%. After that every hole finishes in about 10 seconds until I hit the white wall and I think it makes me miss some content. Really enjoyed the game though. I'm a big fan of "Make number go bigger" games and this one was really good despite some bugs.
the white wall is just the end of the game. but yeah the research points upgrade you bought is super op and unbalanced right now which is probably how you got to the end so quickly :/ im planning to scale it back a lot or cap it as another user suggested
Very cool game, though the tiles will sometimes go completely white, preventing any digging (as I assume they have reached NaN and are interpreted by the game as having infinite depth). This can happen at any tile at seemingly any point of the game, likely due to tiles updating very quickly. Also tiles will sometimes just... undig themselves over time? Had a tile at ~180 for a few minutes, then I dug it again and it went to like 147. Very strange. [SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT]
Also the scaling gets really wack. ESPECIALLY via the gardens. Can go from like 10k ft tiles to millions extremely quickly via the worm and gopher efficiency boost. Pairs very well with the Denisovan Bracelet permanent upgrade which got me like +10,000,000,000% research for every artifact. You probably want to give reachable hard caps to the one of a kind items so that people who buy them early aren't literally a billion times slower at getting research than I was. Also maybe make the other place a bit more useful, right now the only use is for discovering the bracelet (it's so forgettable I can't even remember its name). 8/10 game, my comment is only mainly issues so that they are brought to light.
pretty fun game with great progression up until you go from ~20-30k research to 10m and then the game sorta falls apart. also the gardeners backyard is insanely better than the philanthropist's since collecting artifacts scales ur artifact collection rate. the 3d model also doesn't seem to work for me and my progress didn't save :(
I'm getting these white patches that have no yield and go down as far as you can see over there in the 3d view. They started showing up when I started finding artifacts, maybe tied to them somehow?? I'm going to play through to the next dig site to see if they are still there. Love the game!

great game but I have one minor complaint, some artifacts have blank spaces that are annoying, because I thought I fully dug it up, but it just isn't, it also isn't consistent which ones are and which ones aren't, like the top left square of the ammonite isn't but the bottom right corner of it is
Also, I think the crystal ball should be 3x3, not 2x2, it's infuriating because I know there's more under there
noted !
i have 6 people in my history class playing this, update, and you can have my life
LOL
more content?
im working on some more content now; hopefully will post an update in the next week or two
oh hell yeh i reached the flashbang
huh.png
Pretty colours!!! fun game :D
thank you for playing !
Finished the game. All I see is the white flashbang.
one of my holes (browser) keeps going down. is this a bug, or a feature? it's by far the highest i have, but it's weird to me
hey, what do you mean that its "going down"?
the count is going down, like from 53 to 52. (i'm bad at explaining things)
yesss i was able to recreate this, should be fixed in the latest build 0.3.6
yay!! i love this game so much

this is awesome
no it's really not. it's low-iq nerd stuff.
I can't get the exe to run properly. I get the starting blank with the title and it just idles there
Hey are you on windows or mac ?
Really enjoyable game!
I couldn't understand the point of crafting, though. It opened too far in the game, and I didn't see why I should even bother

that's the end ! Im planning to make it more obvious or show some kind of popup when this happens
minor mistake: it says you can prestige at 300 research points but it actually let's you at 200.
thank you for catching this !

Wow
Worms have developed class consciousness
they know their worth
very broken, very fun. denisovan bracelet is so incredibly broken that artifacts stopped spawning and all of the tiles turned white
the white tiles just mean you got to the end of the game, but that upgrade is definitely way too powerful at the moment !

Umm, is there any chance of a save system?
this is currently what im working on
okay, thanks.
Please make it downloadable :<
i should have Mac and PC builds up today or tomorrow
is the bracelet bonus locked at the bonus that you bought it at or does the bonus increase as your money production increases?
its locked at the bonus you bought it at (if you saw my original response before i deleted my comment its because i misinterpreted the question on first read!)
ah. maybe i shouldve waited for a higher bonus. oh well.
This is really fun!
If you wanted to look into a way of saving that could be easier for you, there's a cool site for Idle games called galaxy.click where is cloud based, maybe you could look at hosting there too
thank you, looking into this !
There is still no save import/export function, and I have now lost my save file a second time.
hey this is what i'm currently working on now its just taking me a bit of time but its my top priority

holy exponential scaling

Same here, they just randomly pop up.
Please add a save export and import function, I’ve already lost my save once and I do not want to lose it a second time.
How do I unlock the second staff member? Am I missing something? (Turns out I needed 3 worms, which doesn't say is the requirement!)
hmm can you try buying a few more worms ?
i came back to this game the day after and all my progress was gone :(
spoiler or bug idk just dont look if you haven't made it super far
OMG that is other side of the world
out of curiosity did you experience any lag
nope none at all sir
